30 hours on the road, 8000 feet above sea level, too many drive-through stops; we have arrived in Dolores, CO. I woke up this morning between two mountains– I’ve never said that before. The view here is definitely worth the altitude sickness. From a distance the mountains may look blue but up close they are green green green. My favorite are the alpines with their scrawny bone colored trunks and thin branches with wispy looking leaves. As for wildlife we have managed to avoid bears (rumor has it they wander these parts) but we may have to fight off a skinny grey squirrel or two. The most incredible thing here are the stars. They pop out of the sky, whiter and hotter than I’ve ever seen. Ohio stars have nothing on these. I wish iPhone cameras could do them justice. All I can say is 3 days in a mini van with 3 younger siblings was well worth it.
